Bio
Lucy Valencia leads public affairs and intergovernmental affairs for the City of Yuma, in Yuma, Arizona. A graduate of the University of Arizona’s School of Journalism, her focus is in communications, public relations, digital marketing and social media, and in connecting people within communities. In her intergovernmental role, she assists local leaders in boosting and strengthening relationships with counterparts south of the U.S.-Mexico border and beyond to promote economic development, higher education opportunities and growth in the collective border region. Valencia is bilingual and hosts a television program in the Yuma community to inform residents who are more comfortable digesting information in Spanish about City information, news and topics.

Prior to her role in intergovernmental affairs, Valencia was a producer for the local CBS-affiliate in Yuma. For the last four years, she has served on the University of Arizona Yuma Alumni Chapter’s Scholarship Board, where she dedicates time to helping local high school and college students attain a higher education at the University of Arizona. She is currently Vice President of the Yuma Cats, and works with the Chapter to host events and efforts that will generate local scholarship funding through the Chapter’s Scholarship Committee. Valencia serves on the Board of Directors of Factor Sales Inc., a family-owned business in southwestern Arizona of multiple grocery stores and other businesses.

She is a certified yoga instructor at the 200-hour level who teaches classes aimed to connect people, to help them to recharge, and to find a balanced state of mind.
