CENTRL Regional Connection at Fort Huachuca

Friday November 5 - Saturday November 6, 2021

Do you know what a Sentinel Landscape is? Join us in South Eastern Arizona to find out and learn how coordination among a local community for conservation and preservation through private ownerships, non-profit organizations and several federal agencies. Once the Federal Coordinating Committee designates a sentinel landscape, USDA, DoD, and DOI work with local partners to equip private landowners with the resources necessary to carry out sustainable management practices on their properties. Sustainable management practices such as farming, ranching, and forestry offer economic and ecological benefits and protect defense facilities from incompatible development.

Located in southern Arizona’s Sonoran Desert, Fort Huachuca is home of the U.S Army Intelligence Center of Excellence and the Network Enterprise Technology Command. As a Major Range Test Facility Base, Fort Huachuca is a hub of electromagnetic technology testing and training. The base is also one of the most extensive unmanned aerial vehicle training facilities globally, supporting operations for the U.S. Army, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Marine Corps, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

At this CRC, you will learn how Fort Huachuca’s Sentinel Landscape designation and the partners that have come together help protect natural resources, local economies, and our national defense. You will visit Fort Huachuca, established in 1877; travel to Ramsey Canyon, and witness the beauty and significance of the sky islands; and visit the San Pedro House, a historic ranch house also designated globally important bird area.

Complimentary registration is required before 10/29/21 for anyone interested in learning more about Ft. Huachuca, Arizona Center for Rural Leadership and collaboration. The first 45 people to register from Class 30, any alumni class, friends, family and recruits will be able to join us! Limited registration to accommodate base security.

There are a few hotels available in the area and if you plan to spend the night, please book your room wherever you please. As with most CENTRL events, some people will be staying at the local Holiday Inn Express Sierra Vista - 1902 S. Hwy. 92, Sierra Vista, Arizona 85635.  Book your own and there is no group rate.
